About Youth Recovery Connections
Youth Recovery Connections (YRC) is a community-based nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting youth, adults, and families impacted by substance use, mental health challenges, and justice system involvement.

Mission & History
Founded in 2021, YRC was created to address gaps in care and provide culturally responsive, peer-driven services that promote healing, stability, and long-term recovery. Our programs are rooted in lived experience, trauma-informed practices, and a deep commitment to equity. We offer enhanced care management, community support services, peer mentoring, advocacy, reentry support, and prevention-focused programming.
Our Approach

We work alongside individuals and families to help them navigate complex systems, strengthen natural supports, and build pathways toward wellness and self-sufficiency. At Youth Recovery Connections, we believe recovery is possible for everyone. Through partnerships, compassion, and accountability, we strive to create a supportive environment where people feel empowered to reclaim their lives and thrive in their communities.

About the Founder

I am Michael Salinas, Founder and Executive Director of Youth Recovery Connections (YRC). I started YRC with a clear purpose: to create a space where individuals, youth, and families who have been impacted by substance use, mental health challenges, justice involvement, and system barriers can find real support, dignity, and opportunity for change.
My work is grounded in both professional experience and lived understanding of how difficult it can be to navigate systems that are often fragmented, overwhelming, or unresponsive to the real needs of people. I believe support works best when it is personal, community‑based, and rooted in trust.
What I Do at YRC
At Youth Recovery Connections, my role is hands‑on and mission‑driven. I lead the development of programs that focus on prevention, early intervention, recovery, and long‑term stability, while also ensuring our services remain accessible, trauma‑informed, and responsive to the communities we serve.
My work includes:
-
Building and overseeing programs that support mental health, substance use recovery, and reentry
-
Developing partnerships with schools, counties, healthcare providers, and community organizations
-
Leading services such as Enhanced Care Management (ECM), peer support, advocacy, family support, and prevention programs
-
Advocating for individuals and families who face barriers within healthcare, education, and justice systems
Supporting and mentoring staff—especially peer staff with lived experience—so services remain rooted in compassion and credibility.
Why I Started Youth Recovery Connections
YRC was created to address the gaps I saw firsthand—where individuals were expected to “figure things out” on their own while dealing with trauma, recovery, or system involvement. Too often, people are labeled by their challenges rather than supported for their strengths.
Youth Recovery Connections exists to change that narrative.
We meet people where they are, walk alongside them, and help them build pathways forward—whether that means staying engaged in school, navigating behavioral health care, rebuilding after incarceration, or strengthening family relationships.
What We Do at YRC
At YRC, we provide a continuum of community‑based services that includes:
-
Prevention & Early Intervention for substance use and mental health
-
Enhanced Care Management (ECM) for individuals with complex needs
-
Peer Support led by staff with lived experience
-
Advocacy to help individuals and families navigate systems and reduce barriers
-
Family Support to strengthen communication, understanding, and stability
-
Reentry and Justice‑Involved Services focused on successful community reintegration
All of our services are voluntary, person‑centered, and grounded in respect.
My Commitment
I am committed to building an organization that centers equity, lived experience, and collaboration. At YRC, we don’t believe in one‑size‑fits‑all solutions. We believe in listening first, responding with care, and supporting people in ways that honor their goals and their humanity.
Youth Recovery Connections is more than a program—it is a community effort to ensure no one has to navigate recovery or transition alone.
